Spend
a day in the land of the heroes and Highland rogues: Wallace the hero; Rob
Roy our rogue and Bruce the King. Travelling past Linlithgow Palace, we progress
through the historic old town of Stirling towards its great rock-fortress
for views or a guided tour. This is followed by a drive among the waters and
woodlands of the Trossachs: travelling the picturesque Callander road, passing
Loch Venachar, Loch Achray and over the Duke's Pass to Aberfoyle.
Lunch
is taken at the Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha Bay - this very pleasant and friendly
hostelry is sited on the eastern side of Loch Lomond, next to the famous West
Highland Way and is renowned for its scenery and quiet aspect. After lunch,
there is an option of relaxing by the banks of Loch Lomond, walking or drinking
in the scenery; or of a scenic drive up to the Rowardennan, offering spectacular
views of the lochs, before beginning the homeward journey to Edinburgh. |
